From Eagles to Hummingbirds

There are two major salmon-spawning rivers in the area which attract a migration of thousands of bald eagles. The town of Brackendale, 15 minutes away, holds its “Annual Eagle Count” every January. Ask us about the river rafting tours available for Eagle Viewing. These same eagles soar over the treetops of the Tantalus View Retreat.

Bird Watching
There are many birds that visit Tantalus View Retreat. There are flickers, piliated wood-peckers, robins both American and Canadian, and 2 or more species of humming birds. In summer we provide a hummingbird feeder which attracts Anna and Rufus hummingbirds mostly, who compete for the nectar. Sometimes 4 perch and drink at once and sometimes a single tyrant works tirelessly to guard the feeder putting on quite a show. One guest called it the "Luftwaffe" or airport with birds coming and going. They are quite entertaining up close through the window or from the hot tub.
